Edward-Elmhurst Health needed to make a big statement in a highly competitive market, the Greater Chicago area. From the recent merger between Edward Hospital & Health Services and Elmhurst Memorial Healthcare in 2013, Edward-Elmhurst Health became one of the largest integrated health systems in the state, comprised of three hospitals with revenues of approximately $1 billion and more than 50 outpatient locations across a service area of 1.7 million residents.

Given both its size and the size of the healthcare market, Edward-Elmhurst Health sought to launch the new Edward-Elmhurst brand with a bold, new idea for healthcare: a fully integrated, multichannel strategy leveraging a sports celebrity and focusing on wellness. MedTouch worked alongside Edward-Elmhurst and its agency partner on this visionary and exceptionally patient-centric strategy. The first digital component? A compelling, interactive social media game to educate, inspire and encourage healthy living, connecting the overall brand message of “Healthy Driven.”

MedTouch designed and delivered a cohesive, interactive game-based site that raised awareness for the distinctive rebrand, built loyalty and, ultimately, engaged patients with consistent messaging across web, social and mobile platforms. The fully responsive microsite was built on the leading CMS on the market — Sitecore — to allow Edward-Elmhurst to begin building relationships it will extend on its enterprise site. After establishing the “Healthy Driven” presence and increasing brand recognition for Edward-Elmhurst Health, the microsite later evolved and was incorporated into the main enterprise eehealth.org site. As the first of many digital initiatives envisioned for the rebrand, Healthy Driven demonstrated the strength of integrated digital strategy and paved the way for additional marketing projects across the organization to enhance its brand and patient experience.

Edward-Elmhurst Health’s creative ambition paid off across multiple digital marketing channels. In the first six months alone, the Healthy Driven campaign delivered the following results:

  • 137 million impressions in the Greater Chicago area, resulting in a fully saturated digital market
  • 16,000+ sign-ups for Healthy Driven challenges, engaging patients and prospective patients; 50% created accounts with social media logins
  • 3,400+ follow-on visits to the Provider Directory page, indicating that the website drove appointments
  • 3,000+ visits to the HealthAware assessment, which provides the healthcare system with a connection point to further engage with these visitors
  • 14 million organic impressions globally for its Twitter hashtag #healthydriven, which became the third trending healthcare Twitter hashtag, showing massive organic social engagement
