MedTouch and IASIS Healthcare have been partnering on web projects since 2008. A leading provider of healthcare services, including with 19 facilities nationwide, IASIS Healthcare often leads the curve in rolling out new offerings to its market. IASIS first released an ER Wait Time iPhone application in early 2010, at which point applications were still in the early adoption phase for all industries. IASIS web analytics for the 2010 year demonstrate it was a sound decision, meeting consumer demand as mobile adoption continued to grow. Across eight of IASIS Healthcare’s facilities, average mobile visits accounted for 3% of total website traffic in 2010. By 2011, that boosted to almost 10%, a 200% increase over the previous year. The wait times were a great feature, but unfortunately the application didn’t offer the opportunity for visitors to continue engaging with the hospital.
In the Fall of 2010, after this initial foray into mobile, IASIS came to MedTouch looking to create an effective mobile site design with a focus on transactional points of access, in order to deliver a convenient, user-friendly mobile experience for patients and visitors. Partnering together, MedTouch and IASIS planned to release modified templates of a single design for eight different facilities. The mobile websites would be pared down versions of the main website; visitors would have the ability to search for a physician, find directions and contact information, and/or to browse employment opportunities. All the mobile websites would also integrate current emergency room wait times, helping IASIS patients to gauge their approximate wait to receive care and length of stay when accessing emergency services. These would be followed by two interactive Droid and iPhone applications in November, 2011. Heading into 2012, IASIS is planning to evolve their mobile presence with a plan to offer mobile enabled internal wayfinding on its hospital campuses as well.
